Products
Since the beginning, TCM Formulas has continued to provide high quality Chinese herbs in both granule and tincture forms to practitioners throughout the United States. Our aim is to provide you and your patients with high variety, high quality herbs that can be personalized for you patient’s case and sent in a short period of time with the least amount of effort required by you.
We Offer a Pharmacy of Powders and Tinctures:
We believe the availability of two different forms of herbs provides you and your patient with a choice to ensure better compliance. Granules and tinctures tend to be a good balance of effectiveness/potency with practicality to easily fit into your patient’s life. Besides patient preference, the two forms provide other benefits as well. Tinctures are typically recommended for those with severe digestive issues because the alcohol component allows for the herbs to enter the body throughout the bloodstream rather than the digestive tract ensuring full absorbability/ assimilation of the herbs. Therefore, those patients who have difficulty digesting and assimilating the needed properties of foods and herbs should take this form. Granules are typically better than the tincture form for those patients with a lot of heat (because alcohol in the tinctures can add heat), or for those who cannot ingest alcohol.
Powders:
Powders (also known as granule extracts or granulars) are 5:1 concentration. This means that each gram of powder equals the potency of 5 grams of raw herb in decoction. When patients make raw herb teas at home (also know as decoctions), errors or irregularities in the cooking process often lead to a significant loss of potency. Because powders are prepared under the strictest laboratory conditions, powders are actually much stronger than the numbers suggest. Each batch of powders is tested to assure that it provides a minimum of active ingredient per gram. Therefore, powders can be used at a slightly lower dose than raw herbs.
Our granule pharmacy consists of over 300 single herbs manufactured by Treasure of the East as well as KPC and Min Tong- some of the most respected producers of concentrated Chinese herbs in the world with state-of-the-art facilities and GMP (Good Manufacturing Process) certification.
Proper Dosing for Powders:
Because many practitioners are trained in raw herb dosages, the easiest way is to write out your prescription in raw dosages and we will convert it into granular dosage for you. In order for us to do this, we need you to indicate the total number of grams needed (this can be found by multiplying your patient’s daily dose by the number of days you would like them to take the formula). A patient’s daily dosage should be converted into grams to fill the formula and provided for the patient in the measurement of “scoops” (each formula is sold with a scoop for your patients dosing).
Typical Daily Doses:
6-12g/day usually taken as 3-6g 2x/day and converted into patient instructions as 4-8 scoops/day usually taken as 2-4 scoops 2x/day.
(*Please note, our main line, Treasure of the East, is a coarser powder equaling approximately 1.5g/scoop.)

Liquids:
Our liquid formulas are manufactured by Far East Summit who utilizes a patented dual extraction process generating a 5:1 or 8:1 herb to liquid ratio. The liquid formulas are processed to retain essential oils, energetic activity and the subtle tastes of the five flavors which are so often lost through other preparation methods. Far East has over 15 years of herbs processing experience. They follow GMP (Good Manufacturing Process) and SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) standards. We carry classic formulas in liquid form that can be combined.
Proper Dosing for Liquids:
High dosage= 6 dropperfuls 2x/day
Medium dosage= 4-5 dropperfuls 2x/day
Low dosage= 3 dropperfuls 2x/day
(based on standard extract of 5:1)
(note that 1 “dropperful”= 1 full squeeze of the pipette when it is submerged in the liquid solution filling it approximately half-way)
*Please note: Far East recommends 1-3 droppers (one squeeze of the dropper bulb fills it half way and is considered 1 dropper) 3x/day. This is equivalent to the standard dosing of a raw formula. However, we recommend dosages of 4-6 droppers 2x/day suggesting a slightly higher daily dose. We also believe dosing less frequently per day increases patient compliance.
